Letting our lives run by fear
What are you most afraid of?
I believe that there’s probably at least one thing in your life right now that you’re consciously or unconsciously afraid of. It might be that you’re afraid of…
…a decision you need to make.
…reaching out to someone.
…closing a door.
…starting a new chapter.
…being vulnerable and letting yourself be seen for who you are.
We often let our lives run by fear in one way or another.
We’re often afraid of making the next step. Letting fear hold us back.
Questions like…
What happens if it doesn’t work out?
What happens when I fail?
What happens if I get hurt?
What happens if I hurt someone?
Might be swirling around in your mind (and mine).
It was my birthday last Friday, and you might know that from your own birthday as well, every year when it gets closer to the date, I start to reflect more on my life, on life in general, what the meaning of it is, why I’m even here, what my purpose is but also what I enjoy having in my life or what I would like to have more of in my life and where on the other hand is it time to let go of?
I must admit though that I do ask myself these questions not only on my birthday but rather frequently throughout the year as well.
I guess, it might have to do with my work as well.
I often question myself if it’s good enough what I share? How I can share things differently, in new ways, to reach more people and be able to support them on their journey.
How I can educate myself more, studying, practicing, trying out new practices, meditations, courses, to be able to bring the best value to my retreats and coaching sessions.
There’s a lot of reflection and sometimes self-doubt involved in my work as well.
And as much as I do love the reflection part, I’ve also learnt throughout the years that sometimes I need to stop thinking, worrying and wanting things to be perfect before I share anything and just start doing, making the first step. Because in the end, nothing and no one is perfect.
We’re all imperfect human beings, living in an imperfect universe.
Here to learn, grow and evolve.
- is something my Yoga Teacher, Peter, liked to say.
So, it’s all about being brave and taking that first step.
And as scary as it might be sometimes, isn’t that what makes us feel most alive?
Isn’t that what our souls, our hearts truly crave for? Adventure? Excitement? Letting go and jumping into the unknown?
Isn’t that one of the things that makes us grow the most?
I’m sure you remember a moment in your life when you were really brave.
Take a moment to think about it.
How did it feel when you decided to be brave and do it?
When you were brave and asked someone out on a date…
When you were brave and leaned forward to kiss someone…
When you were brave and opened yourself up to someone, letting them see your most vulnerable parts…When you were brave and decided to travel to a far away place you’ve never been before…When you were brave and booked that Yoga training located in the middle of the jungle because you knew it would be good for you…
When you were brave and moved to another city to start a new job there…
When you were brave and… I’m sure there were many moments in your life where you’ve already been brave.
And I’m also sure it might have felt a little scary, maybe some uncertainty if that was the right move but at the same time, I’m also sure it felt pretty damn good, yes? Empowering?
Or maybe it brought you closer to someone, created a new and stronger connection.
I sometimes believe that we all think that we’ve time to do all of those things, sometimes at a later point.
But doesn’t life show us all on a regular basis that life in this human body, on this earth is not eternal?
That time is very limited.
That time is indeed precious.
That some opportunities might never come again?
The opportunities to step up, to move forward.. to meet infinite potential partners..
I believe that the belief we’ve of having enough time, is a very big illusion.
So, the time to take action is now.
Pick up that phone and call a loved one, tell them how much you appreciate and/or love them.
Arrange a coffee date with your bestie.
If you want to turn your life around, take that first small step today. And be proud of yourself.
Life’s short.
Even, if I “only” turned 36 last week, I really start to realise it. Especially because the last four years seem to have just flown by with the wind.
And I honestly wished I would have started with many things much sooner! And yes, this is my journey and we all have a different one.
But if I can just give you a little nudge today, a little push, to motivate you to start today and not wait until tomorrow, so you don’t have to grief like me for missed opportunities, chances and missed time, then I’m here for it.
